Types of Cut

Rip Cut Table Saw Operation Guide

Making a Rip Cut - A rip cut is a table saw cut made parallel to the wood grain, usually to make a board narrower. It uses a rip fence to guide the wood straight through the blade.
1. Setup

·         Adjust blade angle and height.

·         Lock the fence in position.

·         Place push sticks within easy reach.

2. Cutting Position

·         Face the blade side of the fence.

·         Use your guide hand to press the material against the fence and down into the table.

3. Starting the Cut

·         Turn on the saw.

·         Position material at the table edge, away from the blade.

·         Stand on the infeed side, close to the saw and next to the material.

4. Feeding the Material

·         Maintain steady pressure.

·         Press the material down toward the table and against the fence.

·         Feed it through the blade at a consistent rate.

5. Hand Placement and Finishing the Cut

·         Keep your guide hand stationary.

·         Use your feed hand to push the material completely past the blade guard.

·         Release the cut-off piece only after it clears your guide hand.

6. Safety Precautions

·         Never reach over a moving blade to retrieve or remove scrap—even with a push stick.

·         Turn off the saw before walking away.

·         Wait for the blade to come to a complete stop before removing any material.

Miter Gauge Table Saw Operation Guide

MiterGaugeIllustration-01.jpg

Using Miter Gauge - A miter gauge is used on a table saw to make precise angled or crosscuts across the wood grain. It keeps the wood stable and aligned at the correct angle as it moves through the blade.
1. Setup

- Lock the miter gauge guide into position.

2. Starting the Cut

- Turn on the saw.

- Place material at the edge of the table, away from the blade.

3. Cutting Technique

- Hold the wood firmly against the miter gauge with your guide hand.

- Use your feed hand to advance the gauge and wood through the blade.

- Ensure the stock contacts the full face of the miter gauge.

4. Motion Control

- Push the wood forward only—never drag it back against the blade.

- Reversing direction can cause serious injury.

5. Safety Precautions

- Never reach over a moving blade to retrieve or remove scrap.

- Turn off the saw before walking away.

- Wait for the blade to come to a complete stop before handling material.

 Safety Tips:

·         Never reach over or behind the blade while it is running.

·         Do not use the rip fence and miter gauge together for the same cut.

·         Avoid cutting warped, twisted, or unstable material.

·         Always be aware of kickback risks and use proper techniques to minimize them.
